The Society was constituted by Jain religion Kanungo Community from Hansi (Haryana), but subsequently members from all walks of life, religion, caste and community joined the Society.  The Society was registered on 19.12.1979.  a plot of 15,000 square meters was allotted to the Society by the Delhi Development Authority and construction completed in 1998.  The Society has 209 members (of which 142 are male and 67 female) and share capital of Rs.20,900/-.

Management

 

Text Box: It is one of the rarest societies where all working process,

rules, norms, procedures, expectations and decisions

are democratically implemented and amended. The

managing committee is duly elected and holds its meetings

frequently in accordance with its bye-laws.  The endeavour

of the managing committee is to provide comfortable

housing with clean environment, secure living, sharing

happiness and to set examples in joint living.  Before

undertaking any project the managing committee

seeks expert advise either from professional resident

or from an outside expert and executes them only after

it is fully satisfied.  It evaluate results and benefits of each

project whether it is civil, electrical, hydraulic,

horticulture or mechanical through a feed-back from

residents and accordingly make future plans.  To maintain

transparency in its activities the managing committee has

formed various sub-committees such as civil maintenance

and construction, electrical construction, horticulture, security,

car parking, light and fire safety, legal, cultural and of ladies to

manage its day to day affairs.

 

The Society has mobilised its own funds of Rs.39.07 lakhs through contributions from members, donations from individuals, income from guest house, function hall, temporary letting out of common space, interest on deposits etc.  the general audit of accounts of the Society is up to date and it has been placed under ‘A’ category.  In view of its performance, the Society won best Society award for the years 2002 and 2006.

Construction/development

Text Box: The Society has constructed 35 LIG (1581 sq. ft. each) and

174 MIG flats (1844 sq. ft. each) at a very affordable cost

of Rs.439.59 and Rs.404.01 per sq. ft. respectively which

 is much cheaper than the cost of flats allotted by other

agencies. The cost saving was made possible by

dedicated services rendered by the managing committee

during construction period.  The flats are constructed on

six high rise blocks each having eight floors

(excluding basement and ground floors which are used as parking space) keeping in mind the soil conditions of riverbed and earthquakes. It has raft foundation and all the pillars are interlocked to withstand earthquakes of high intensity. 

 

Developed better living Infra-structural Facilities :

 

The Society has also created social infrastructure that has made the colony a premier area of the region, the salient feature of which are as under:

 

1.                  Has power supply from single point connection of 2360 KW and 24 hour power backup to all flats and utility areas from 2 eco-friendly noiseless 160 KW power generators.

 

2.                  provides fresh drinking water to its residents on 24 hour basis through 500,000 liters capacity underground and 3,60,000 liters capacity overhead storage tanks.  Two tube wells have also been installed to meet emergency requirements.

 

3.                  it has underground reserved parking for all 209 members and unreserved parking for another 160 cars over ground.

 

4.                  33% of the total land of Society is covered with lush green gardens including main terrace park which is one of biggest of its kind in any Society in Delhi.  The periphery of the Society covers another 5300 square feet area with a variety of trees and shrubs.

 

5.                  wet high risers and sprinklers have been installed as per the requirement of the Delhi Fire Services Department rules.

 

6.                  24 hours operational automatic lifts have been installed in all the six blocks with 6 stand-by lifts.

 

7.                  it has its own intercom system with facility to receive external calls through automatic EPBX system.

 

8.                  Has four toilets on ground floor for use by general staff and contract labour.

 

9.                  Has sports facility for badminton in two cemented courts, indoor facilities for table tennis, volleyball, basket ball and other indoor games.

 

10.              Has Common area in 7 stilts consisting of two party halls of 3600 sq.ft. each, one air-conditioned residents guest house, one Society office, and one hall each for sports and other activities.

 

Maintenance

 

Water, sewer, sanitation, lighting of streets, stairs, garden,

sports grounds, security and other day-to-day facilities

are being fully managed by the Society.  The Society

provides free electrical and plumbing repairs services to

all residents.  Society ensures collection of garbage from

each flat, sweeping of Society premises, roads, stair case

and other common areas and removal of garbage from

common dumping place on daily basis.  It has employed

six sweepers for this purpose.  Round the clock eight

guards provide security to the Society.  The Society also provide electricity for lighting of streets, stairs, gardens, sports grounds and other common areas. has installed a surveillance camera at the main gate of the Society with TV display in all the flats.    It undertake yearly repairs, white washing and painting of the complex.  With a view to keep area clean, green and pollution free, the Society has enlisted the services of one horticulture consultant and four gardeners. The Society is maintaining all common civil, electrical and other properties including fire-fighting equipments.

 

Social, Cultural and other Activities

Text Box: The Society organises on regular basis New Year function, Lohri festival, Republic Day flag hoisting ceremony with sports activities and poetry recital, Holi festival, Mahavir Jayanti, Haryali Teej, Independence Day, Deepawali function, health camps, arts and competitive activities, group participation in big way in TV programs with great pomp and show.   Jagannath Rath Yatra of East Delhi originates from this Society and is one of the most popular functions of the area with Kanungo Society taking lead in conjunction with ISKCON.  A senior citizen forum is also run by its 30 members.

 

The Society has also made arrangement to collect power charges from all residents and its payment to power supply company.  The members of the Society keep in touch with local MLAs, Municipal Councilor and local police officials to give them feed-back for improving pavement on main road and parking rules for market in front of the Society so as to ensure neat and clear environment around its periphery.

In the Society people live happily in clean, secured environment and in perfect harmony which gives the Society a special status.

Future Plan :

The Society plans to undertake construction of gymnasium, modern library, card room for senior citizens, cooperative store and health centre in the colony in near feature.
