The 27th Conference of the Chairmen and Chief Executives of Apex Cooperative Housing Federations was organised on 15th January, 2009 at Jaipur.

During 55th All India Cooperative Week Celebrations a Symposium on “Income Tax and Cooperatives” was organized to celebrate the “Cooperative Housing for All Day” on 18th November, 2008 at New Delhi.

A State level Seminar on "Right to Information Act and Cooperatives" was organised jointly by NCHF and Delhi State Cooperative Union on 18th February, 2009 at New Delhi.

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has made an allocation of Rs.125 crore as loans to Apex Federations for the year 2008-09.

A number of trainees and a foreign delegation visited NCHF Secretariat during the period under reference, which were briefed about the activities and achievements of NCHF and the Indian Cooperative Housing Movement.

cooperative housing projects providing practical and viable solutions to current housing problems across the country were short-listed to enable a publication on ‘Best Practices in Housing Cooperatives’. Details of 12 projects identified for inclusion in the Best Practices have been uploaded on the web-site of NCHF for the benefit of members of housing cooperatives.

During the year 2008-09, NCHF organised five need based training programmes which were attended by 101 personnel of Apex Federations and Housing Cooperatives of various states. Faculty support was also provided to cooperative and other organisations.

Documentation Centre on Cooperative Housing was further strengthened by procuring various useful books, reports etc.

Guidelines on Prudential Norms (NPA Guidelines) for Apex Cooperative Housing Federations/Primary Housing Cooperatives were drafted.

Various publications were brought out by NCHF during the year, important among them being the Handbook on Cooperative Housing Statistics, Compilation of Supreme Court Judgements (2003-2007), Hindi Patrika “Sahakari Awas”, English-Hindi Dictionary, NCHF Pamphlet, Monthly newsletter ‘Housing Voice’ besides the monthly in-house journal known as `NCHF Bulletin’ including special issues on World Habitat Day (October, 2008) and Cooperative Week Celebrations (November, 2008).

During 2008-09, the Apex Federations have disbursed loans amounting to Rs.268.80 crores and number of houses financed during the period is 17,492 units.

With regards to implementation of Rajbhasha (Hindi) in its office during the year under report, NCHF observed Hindi Prayog Protsaahan Maas, correspondence in Hindi language increased, Annual Report and Audit Report of last year were prepared and published in Hindi, Half yearly Hindi Patrika “Sahakari Awas” was published, a Dictionary (English-Hindi) containing words relating to cooperative housing was brought out and a Handout on ‘Awas Sahakarita ke Maadhyam se’ was published in Hindi.

NCHF entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the LIC Housing Finance Limited (LIC-HFL) to facilitate members of housing cooperatives to receive housing loans without any difficulty.

At the instance of NCHF, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttarakhand issued orders for Provision of Structural Audit in the bye-laws of housing cooperatives during the year 2008-09.

VCD of the film produced by NCHF reflecting achievements of housing cooperatives was sent to member Apex Federations. The video film was also screened before the participants of various training programmes, symposium etc. and viewed by those who came for study visit to NCHF Secretariat during the year.

All necessary support and cooperation was provided to Member Apex Federations on various issues.
